CSKA Sofia History

CSKA Sofia – the historically dominant club, founded in 1948.
CSKA 1948 – a newer club, founded in 2016.

In 2015, CSKA Sofia went bankrupt due to heavy debts. Our owner who left in 2024 Grisha Ganchev had to buy another team's license because there was no other way we could play in the first league, due to the country taking our license. So Grisha had to get Litex Lovech's license who is now racing in 2nd league.

After we had that done we had to buy the original emblem, which we did, but we couldnt use the name CSKA (Sofia) anymore and had to change to CSKA-Sofia (Sofia). After we bought the emblem, we managed to buy our trophies back, 98% of the fans sticked with the club and we kept our history achievements.

A few months ago we were finally able to bring back our original name and remove the "-" from our name. So basically our name went from CSKA-Sofia (Sofia) back to the original CSKA (Sofia)

Which One Is the "Real" CSKA?

• CSKA Sofia - is seen as the successor to the original club, keeping the trophies, fanbase, and history.
• CSKA 1948 - a newer club, founded in 2016, with no fans, no history, started fresh.
